Failure is Not an Option!

Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth. ~ Mark Twain

Scripture:
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Romans 16:17-18

Today I was full of apprehension. Nothing significant happened, other than the realization of a dream coming to fruition. You see, a few years ago I decided that I wanted to become an author. Since that time, I have slowly begun working towards that goal. This desire manifested itself when I began writing these devotionals and with it came the realization that I was touching the lives of others with God’s word. I moved from the devotionals to short stories and finally, my first full fledged manuscript. My manuscript was selected by Elissa Gabrielle of “Peace in the Storm Publishing.”

Elissa chose my book along with seven other very talented authors to launch this endeavor. These groups of authors are like none I’ve ever met before. Although the selections of books are as varied as the authors themselves, each is extremely talented and noteworthy in their own right. It causes me to ponder the question, Am I worthy?

Am I worthy enough to be counted among this national collective of talent? Am I worthy enough to think I can actually be an author who can sell books outside of my own circle of family and friends? But most of all, can I actually touch the lives of other by spreading God’s word? I was both humbled and frightened of the tasks that lay ahead.

What if I’m not good enough, talented enough or eloquent enough? What happens if I can’t talk to people about my book or worse yet, say the wrong thing? What happens if I turn people away from instead of leading people to Christ? What if?

So often we find ourselves on the verge of our breakthroughs and we will actually undermine our own efforts for fear of doing or saying the wrong things. We will talk ourselves out of our blessings out of fear and because we lack the faith to see these things through. As I write these words, I am reminded of just how often God has promised us His blessings if we just believe and have faith. His word tells us that we have not because we ask not. I am also reminded that He has not given us a spirit of fear and that all He asks of us is to have mustard seed faith.

In knowing the word of God, all I can say is; Failure is not an option.

Be blessed

Prayer:
Father God, I come before the throne of grace seeking Your favor, Your grace and Your wisdom. Lord, as I pause to reflect on what lies ahead, I am reminded that it doesn’t matter because You have already gone before me to prepare the way. Lord, there are those around me waiting to see me fail. But I know that even if I fall, I can always get back up. I know that my greatest failure is not being willing to at least try. I am fearless because You have already given me power over failure. I can move mountains and overcome anything that lies in my way because You have given me the victory in Christ Jesus. When the way seems dark and dismal, I will not fear because You are there to light my way. Thank You Father. Thank You Lord, because You are there to quiet the storms that assail me. You speak words of peace, love, and joy. Thank You. Father God, I come asking that You would touch my brothers and sisters in Christ. Where there is pain and suffering, I ask that You would replace that pain with the joy of healing. Where there is confusion, I ask that You would replace that confusion with the clarity of Your word. Where there is and war, I ask for peace. Lord, my prayer is not complete until I give thanks to You for not only what You have done in my life but also for what You are about to do. Bless the name of the Lord, thank You Jesus. In His name we pray, Amen.

Be Someone Friend's Today

Remember, If a friend is in trouble, don't annoy him by asking if there is anything you can do. Think up something appropriate and do it. ~ Edgar Watson Howe

Scripture:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Ecclesiastes 4:10 (New International Version)

Have you ever really thought about the true meaning of friendship? Friendship is a word that we often use haphazardly. If we know someone by name, we will call him a friend. If we work with someone, there is another friend. If someone knows us via a family member, coworker or through another person, more than likely you would call that person a friend too.

As usual, I looked up the word friend. The two definitions I will use today are; a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. And; a person who gives assistance. In other words, a friend is someone you have a personal relationship with, not just somebody you know.

As human beings, we are quick to call someone a friend, but are slow to act like one. As you think about those you call friend, who can you really depend on and who can really depend on you? Now I won’t go into a lot of details about what a real friend should do, however, what I will say is that a friend will do.

A friend will help you. A friend will comfort you. A friend will provide for you. A friend will listen to you. A friend will come when you call. But most of all; a friend will forgive you.

Now personally, I think a have some pretty good friends. The will help, comfort, listen, provide, come when I call, and a real friend will forgive me when I ask. However, I have only one best friend. His name is Jesus.

Do you have a friend like him?

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father, we come once again thanking You for the friends, our angels, that You have placed in our lives. Thank You for allowing me to be a friend to others. But most of all, thank You for the greatest friend of all, Jesus Christ. Lord, continue to heal our sick, comfort those who are struggling and protect us when we stray. Touch Your saints who are going through right now. Satan is still busy and would love to see each of us fail. So many are going through there own personal trials, but we know that You are still the judge who settles all matters for our good. Keep us all in perfect peace, Amen.

My Personal God

Remember, Religion is not a fractional thing that can be doled out in fixed weekly or daily measures as one among various subjects in the school syllabus. It is the truth of our complete being, the consciousness of our personal relationship with the infinite. ~ Rabinranath Tagore

Scripture:
various - SEE BELOW

Saints, Today I want to tell you about my God. You see, I call him my God because to me, he is my personal God. Now that doesn't mean I can't share Him with you, but to me it means that we have a one on one relationship. You see, my Father is always there for me. When I am in need, he supplies.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

When I cry, He wipes my tears away.
He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of His people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken. Isaiah 25:8

When I am hungry, he feeds me.
He rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven. Psalm 78:24

When I am tired, He comforts me.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 When I am weak, He gives me strength.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

My list goes on and on. You see, my God supplies everything that I will ever need. He is my strength, my joy, my protector, my sustainer, my comforter, my Father & Mother, my friend. But you know what saints, the most important thing that my God is to me, is my Personal Lord and Savior. Who loved me enough to sacrifice his own son so that you and I could dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
You are El Shaddia, the God of Abundance. All Sufficient God. The Mighty One. The God who is More Than Enough. You are also Jehovah Nissi. God My Banner, Elohim, God of Total Power. You are The First and the Last, The Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and the End. You are my all and all. Lord, we come before the throne of grace humbling ourselves before You. We bow down in total reverence and submission to You. Lord we adore You. We praise You, but most of all, we thank You. We thank You Lord for one more day. One more chance, one more opportunity to go forth and do a good works in Your name. Lord, we come standing together as one. We join together on one accord, touching and agreeing this day, to intercede on behalf of our brothers and sisters. Lord, we ask that each of us would begin to develop a more personal relationship with You. We ask Lord, that Your power and Your spirit would be magnified in our lives. Lord, may something that we do or say today, lead someone to seek Your face. Touch, bless, anoint, heal, deliver, sustain, cover, and keep those saints whose names are listed below. May You add a blessing to those saints and their families who are reading this prayer. Lord, we love You and praise You. Thank You father for our personal Jesus, in his name we pray. Amen. Praise God. Hallelujah!!

Learning to Give Thanks

Remember, Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot. ~ The Hausa of Nigeria

Scripture:
the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying, "Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; his love endures forever." For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,' says the LORD. Jeremiah 33:11 (New International Version)

Every now and then as I reflect upon the things that are or aren’t happening in my life, I begin to feel sorry for myself. Sometimes, I think I should have more, do more or I just want more. I sometimes feel that I am failing in my quest to finding my true destiny. But then, something will happen that will remind to put things back into perspective.

So often these mini revelations that I have, aren’t really that significant at all. It might be seeing a homeless woman on the street and I am reminded that I have a home. It could be hearing how someone loss their child, and then I am reminded that I have two beautiful sons. Or it could simply be seeing someone, all alone, with no one to call friend.

Just this past week, I was depressed because I didn’t feel that I was progressing with my writing. I write everyday but didn’t feel that I had been making any progress as a writer. Then, God started doing what He does best. He reminded me that my writing does matter.

The first reminder came in the form of a message from a dear sister in Christ who told me just how much these messages have meant to her. Then today, I received another message from another friend who said she prints them out to share with her mother each morning. As I started reflecting, these were but two of the many messages that I receive each day from people who find inspiration in the things that I write.

I say all this to say, that even though my dream of publishing my book hasn’t come to fruition, my dream of touching the lives of others through the written word has. I thank God for this forum and this opportunity to share His word and to touch the lives of others.
I give thanks to God for allowing me to find a lot. Each and every one of you!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, sometimes I forget that my purpose isn’t to please myself, it is to please You. I sometimes forget that the gift that You have given me isn’t to please me, it is to be shared with others so they too can see You working in their lives. Father God, forgive me for my selfish nature. Forgive me for not appreciating what I do have. I have love, grace and mercy. I have the gift of life through my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I have fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ who bless me always with their kind words, prayers and thoughts. Lord, I ask that as we begin another week, that each and every one of us will remember, to give thanks for even the smallest of things. That each and every one of us will remember to bless someone else, because you have already blessed each of us. Lord, we give thanks to You on high. We praise and uplift Your Holy Name. Great is Thy faithfulness. Thank You Father. Thank You Jesus. It is in Your name that we submit this prayer. Amen.

Footnote: I wrote this message sometime ago and came across it this evening as I was preparing to do an evening devotional. My praise report is this; God does answer prayers. My debut novel, “Serving Justice” will be available for purchase in April of 2009 through “Peace in the Storm Publishing! Praise God!

Follow Your first Mind

You must train your intuition -- you must trust the small voice inside you which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide. ~ Ingrid Bergman

Scripture:
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5

Saints, how often have you gone to do something then decided to do it another way, only to come back and say; I should have followed my first mind. So often we hear the voice of God telling us what to do, but we won't listen.

There have been times in our lives when something inside of us says to do things a certain way. It can be something as simple as losing our keys and then, all of a sudden it comes to you where they are. Or it could have been a much stronger voice that shouted, “DON’T GO THAT WAY!” In either case what you may not have realized is that, it is the voice of God guiding and directing you in the way that you should go.

When the word of God is used as your source of direction we can't help but do what is right. So often when we don't listen to what he is trying to tell us, we can't help but fail. So saint, today I urge you be still, listen, and act on the word of God. He hasn't failed you yet.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
I heard a bird sing and knew it was God. I felt the wind on my face and knew it was God, I heard a whisper, and knew it was God. Thank You Lord, that You make Your presence known to me each and everyday. Lord, as we look around us today, we see You at work. Thank You Lord for the rain that has caused the flowers, tree and grass to grow. Thank You for the sun that brightens my day and my spirits. Thank You for the moon and the stars, which help me to realize that I am part of something much greater. Lord, but most of all I thank You for YOUR WORD, YOUR GRACE & MERCY, AND MY SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. Father, we ask that You would continue to allow Your blessings to be manifested in our lives. Touch our brothers and sisters who have many needs today. Touch my fellow saints reading this right now, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

You Can Do All Things!

Remember, the achievement of your goal is assured the moment you commit yourself to it. ~ Mack R. Douglas

Scripture:
For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:37

Saints, How many of you think your situation is hopeless? How many of you are discouraged about your situation? How many of you want to give up and let go? Well I am here this morning to tell you DON'T GIVE UP! DON'T GIVE IN! DON'T LET GO!

The word of God says "I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me". "I am more that a conqueror" "If I say to the mountain, be thy removed".

My pastor, Reverend Larry Smith has us come into covenant agreement each Sunday with the words as we hold up our bible "THIS IS MY BIBLE. IT IS THE WORD OF GOD. IT IS THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT. I AM, WHAT IT SAYS I AM. I HAVE, WHAT IT SAYS I HAVE!

This affirmation is something that each of us should be shouting from the mountain tops every morning. Why, Because God cannot lie. He said pick up your sword, your cross and follow me. The word of God says "I CAN DO ALL THINGS, NOT SOME, BUT ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS WHO STRENGTHENS ME!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, we come before the throne of grace thanking You for our miracles. Father we come into covenant agreement and standing in the gap for our brothers and sisters who may be weak. Touch them Lord Jesus. Magnifying Your power and Your presence in their lives. Father, our city and our world is full of stress and strife. Allow Your power and Your spirit to rain down on us this day. Father because of today’s economy, many of our brothers and sisters may be faced with losing jobs. Have mercy Lord. Lord, and as we have to go through our valleys, to GET to the other side, be by our sides. Keeping us in perfect peace. Lord, use us and allow us to bless someone else this day. We love You Lord. We praise and uplift Your name. We give all honor, all praise, all glory to You alone. Hallelujah, anyhow. Hallelujah in spite of. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Praise God, Amen.

Roadblocks

Remember, When reaching obstacles and hurdles, JUMP! ~ unknown

Scripture:
Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD , whose word I raise- Psalm 56:1-3

Saints, have you ever been driving along and ran into a roadblock? You were forced to go in another direction and sometimes you got lost? You had no clue where you were or how to get back on the right road?

That's how our spiritual walk is sometimes. Things will happen to block our way. We have certain plans for our lives. We may have decided that things were going to be done a certain way, then something happens to change our plans. We were so set on doing things our way, we weren't prepared to do anything different and become lost and confused.

Well saints, I know how you can get back on the right road. It's a map called the Book of Life. It is the word of God. The bible. It is our spiritual roadmap for this world.

So when you find yourself lost and confused, pull out your map, and find your way home.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, we come as humbly as we can to give You the glory, the honor and the praise. Thank You Lord, for keeping us one more day. Father, we thank You for Your word. Your word, that teaches us, keeps us, renews us and guides us. We come thanking You this morning for the family of God. You have blessed us, O God, with the gift of friendship, the bonding of persons in a circle of love. We thank You for such a blessing: for friends who love us, who share our sorrows, who laugh with us in celebration, who bear our pain, who need us as we need them, who weep as we weep, who hold us when words fail, and who give us the freedom to be ourselves. Bless our friends with health, wholeness, life, and love. Lord, so many of our loved ones have been stricken with cancer. We come asking for an extra portion of Your grace and mercy today. Touch them now Lord Jesus. Strengthen them, comfort them, but most of all heal their bodies and their spirits. We thank You right now for our breakthroughs that are on the way. We thank You right now for our blessings that our on the way. We love You Lord. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

God's Promise

Remember, the only difference between stumbling blocks and steppingstones is the way in which we use them. ~ Unknown

Scripture:
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. Matthew 21:21 (New King James Version)

Saints, I don’t know if you are anything like me, but periodically, I will begin to doubt my purpose and abilities. You see, I have gone through some things that cause me to question if I have “the right stuff”. Do I have the right job skills, parenting skills and life skills?

When I lost my job, I began to doubt in my abilities to do the work. When my children do things that are contrary to how I have attempted to raise them, I will doubt whether or not I am a good parent. And sometimes when it comes to making the right decisions on how to live, I begin to question whether or not I am making right choices.

As I lay in bed late one night, doubting and questioning everything I have ever done since High School, I heard a voice say, “I have not given you a spirit of fear and you doubt you have fear. You fear because you are listening to the lies of the devil and the devil is a liar”.

You see Saints of God; my God reminded me that he has already given me everything that I need to make it in this world. He reminded me that he has given me all power and authority in Christ Jesus. He has given me access to the throne of grace.

Brothers and sisters, each of us will have doubts about our lives, but the word of God has already assured us that if we just trust in the Lord, this too shall pass.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, with Your blood, You wiped away my sins leaving me promises to enjoy in faith until You come back to claim me as Your own. It takes patience to live in faith, and I confess that sometimes my patience runs thin. I wonder why You don’t act in ways that I can see and understand. Why is there so much evil and suffering in this world that discourage both the faithful and the unfaithful? I don’t understand. Help me to realize that my understanding is not necessary for the completion of Your plan. You understand everything; all I need to do is have faith. In the meantime, keep me free from wavering, Lord. Your faithfulness is perfect, and Your will be done. Lord, I thank you for Your word that speaks to my soul when I am weary. I thank You father, for I know and realize that there is no testimony without a test. I thank You Lord, for even when I am weak, You are still strong. Lord, we bless Your name and submit our prayer in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Soul of a Man

There is a desire deep within the soul which drives man from the seen to the unseen, to philosophy and to the divine. ~ Kahil Gibran

Scripture(s):
The LORD God formed the man The Hebrew for man (Adam) sounds like and may be related to the Hebrew for ground (adamah) it is also the name Adam, from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. Genesis 2:18
Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, for she was taken out of man. Genesis 2:22-23

One of the greatest mysteries that have plagued mankind since the beginning of time is man’s relationship to woman. Man was created to rule of the world and woman was created to be his helpmate. Over the course of time, somehow, the dynamics of the male female relationship have changed. What I mean by this is that somehow, we have become disconnected from this most divine plan.

The sanctity of the divine institution of marriage and family has been drastically altered. The number of single parent households led my woman has grown to epidemic proportions and the number of women trying to raise sons alone, myself included, is overwhelming. I myself, often find that I am at a loss when it comes to instilling in my sons what it really means to be a man.

Too many men have decided that raising their sons is not in their divine plans of life and this decision often leaves our young men to try to figure out this thing call “manhood” on their own. I love my sons dearly and unconditionally, but for reasons that escape me, I often find that their manhood is seriously undermined by their lack of a soul.
What I mean by this statement is that far too often, they are repeating the same mistakes of their fathers.

As a single Christian mother, I have tried to nurture their faith in God and teach them biblical principals. Unfortunately, when they start comparing the word of God to their everyday lives, they do not see this divine plan in action. I mean, how can they “honor their mother AND their father, when the father is often missing from the family dynamics. How can they see the man as the head of the family when the head has essentially cut himself off from the body it was meant to support?

I don’t profess to have the answers to this age old dilemma. However, I do know where I seek these answers, in the word of God. Ladies, I myself have chosen not to give up on my men in training. In spite of. I refuse to allow the world to define my sons’ vision of manhood. It is time that we tell the world, ENOUGH! I will continue to feed my sons’ the word of God. And who knows, they just might reveal to me the soul of a man.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Our Father, which art in heaven. Jehovah Jireh, my provider. Whatever name we choose to call You, we recognize that You are our most Heavenly Father. Lord, we come standing in the gap this evening for our sons who are trying to find their way in this world. So often they become confused by what thing both seen and unseen. Lord, we come asking that you would wrap your arms of protection securely around our sons and our daughters. Lord, we ask that You would place Your hedge of protection securely around them and guide them down this path called life. Bless all of the single mothers trying to raise their children alone. Speak to the hearts and minds of those fathers who are not involved in their children’s lives. Help us Lord, to raise our children in Your ways. Lord, bless us, keep us, and anoint us. We come glorifying and uplifting Your Holy name. Thank you Jesus, for the blood that cleanses us, protects us and sanctifies us. It is in Your name that we submit this prayer, Amen.

There is Value in the Valley

As you walk through the valley of the unknown, you will find the footprints of Jesus both in front of you and beside you. ~ Charles Stanley

Scripture:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, (Or through the darkest valley) I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:3-5 (New International Version)

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of reading a wonderful book by Iyanla Vanzant, titled, “There is Value in the Value.” It was a very motivational book about how going through a valley has its benefits. Now the dictionary defines a valley as; A broad area of low-lying land situated between hills or mountains and usually having a river or stream flowing along its bottom.

Many Christians will talk about a valley experience. A valley experience can mean that you are at a low point in your life. A valley experience could be the loss of a job, loss of loved one, financial difficulties, Strife in your relationships, or a wayward spouse or child. A valley experience can even be a life threatening illness. Each and everyone one of us will at some point in our lives, go through a valley experience.

However, as Ms. Vanzant so eloquently reminds us, there is value in the valley. What this means is that sometimes, being in a valley can actually benefit us. Going through a valley is just a journey from one point to another. While we may not actually enjoy the journey, there are many things that can be learned along the way.

For example, if we take the time and look around our valley, we often see things in our lives more clearly. Maybe that relationship we fought so hard to keep wasn’t really the type of relationship God wanted us to be in. Maybe the job that we lost actually prevented us from spending time with our loved ones and actually stressed us out to the point that we couldn’t really enjoy the prosperity that it brought. And as strange as it may sound, sometimes we create our own financial difficulties by not trusting God with our finances and seeking possessions that don’t necessarily bring us happiness.

Whatever valley you may be in right now, take the time and learn from it. It may be a lesson in humility and obedience. When you are at a low point in your life, always remember to look up.

Learn to appreciate all of your blessings in the valley.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
I love the Lord. He heard my cry. And even as I walk through the valleys of life, He is with me always. Goodness and mercy are at my side. He covers and protects me in the blood of the Lamb. Thank You Lord. Father we come asking that You would give us the strength, the peace and the patience to make it through whatever valley we may go through this day. We come asking that even as we find ourselves in the valley, we know that we are never alone. Lord, as I look around me and see others in the valley with me, may something that I do or say; encourage them to stay their course. Father, I ask that You would touch my brothers and sisters who find themselves in that valley. Lord, let them know that they too are never alone. Thank You Father for allowing us to come before Your throne of grace one more time. Thank You Father, for listening to us, one more time. Thank You Lord, for blessing us, one more time. Praise His name, saints of God. Lord, we lift Your name on high. We sing songs of praise even in the valley low. We will sing songs of praise, when we reach our mountain top. Thank You Lord, Bless You Lord. Hallelujah, praise God. Amen.

It is What it is

Remember; Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal. ~ Pamela Vault Starr

Scripture:
As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. Luke 23:27

Everyone in this world will have a defining moment in their lives. No one can predict what that defining moment will be. For some, it will be the loss of a job, a life altering illness, loss of a loved one, or in the case of Simon of Cyrene, just being at a certain place at a certain time.

So often, there will be nothing that we have or haven’t done that has created this defining moment, but it will be something that by its very nature will ultimately change the course of our life. More often than not, there will be several significant events in our lifetimes that will mold and shape us along the way. I was reminded of this once again as I was faced with the affects of my body changing as I grow older.

The word of God tells us that each of us has our own cross to bear. The size and the weight of the cross will be different for each of us. Now, I am not referring to a cross in a literal sense, but rather figuratively. The cross is symbolic of our journey through life.

The cross is representative of the trials and tribulations that we will be faced with along the way. Family, finances, health issues, and just plain old living are some of the crosses we carry. Some, we carry very easily while others weigh us down. Some we don’t mind carrying, while others we wish we could just be rid of.

Life’s reality is this; it is what it is.

Our crosses in life are necessary for our spiritual and physical development. And sometimes, our crosses are necessary so that others can see the Spirit of God working in our lives. Whatever the reason for your cross, remember,

Jesus said it best; anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, we come before the throne of grace, to give thanks, honor and praise to the one true God. We come humbling ourselves as we seek refuge in the arms of Your protection. Father God, we come asking for the strength and the courage to bear our cross will all due diligence. Sometimes our cross becomes more than we can bear. Help us always to remember that in those times, You, our strength and our redeemer are always there. Thank You Lord, for strength and comfort. Thank You Lord, for my brothers and sisters in Christ we remind me of Your grace and Your mercy. Thank you Lord, for a word that gives me hope in my time of darkness. I thank You most of all for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is in His most Holy name that we submit this prayer. Amen.

That's Love

Remember, the ultimate lesson all of us have to learn is unconditional love, which includes not only others but ourselves as well. ~ Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

Scripture:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Saints, recently a friend and I were talking about the first time we fell in love. We reminisced about how there was no other feeling like it. You couldn't stop thinking about the person you were in love with and you only wanted to be with that one person and no one else.

You trusted that person completely with everything, including your heart. There was nothing that you wouldn't do for that person. how many of you remember the first time you fell in love? Some of may be lucky enough to still be with your first love, but for those of us who aren't, do you remember what if felt like when you lost that love? If felt like your heart would never stop breaking. There was nothing that you or anyone could do or say to make it better.

That's how much God loves us and more! God loves us so much that he can't stop thinking about us. There is nothing that he won't do for us. He wants us to trust him completely. He wants to be with us all the time. God loves us so much that he gave His one and only son so that we wouldn't leave Him.

It breaks God's heart every time one of His children leaves him. But the difference is there is something that we can do and say to make it better. Father, forgive me. I want to come back home to You.

Daddy is waiting there with open arms and He wants to be our first love all over again. Now that's LOVE!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I know that I've done wrong through my thoughts, my actions, and the things that I've said, sometimes by mistake and sometimes on purpose. I have gone my own way and not put You at the center of my life. I am very sorry and ask that You please forgive me. I thank You that I can ask You this because I truly believe that Your Son, Jesus, died in my place and, through Him, I have access to You. Please help me to follow You more closely every day and live a life which gives glory back to You. Forgive us Lord, our sins and transgressions. Thank You Lord for loving us so much. Father, we want You to be our first love. We want You to welcome us with open arms. Father, today we kneel at the foot of the cross where Your son, our Lord and Savior gave His life so that a miserable and unworthy sinner such as me, could once again kneel before the throne of grace. Thank You. Father, let us always remember how much You loved us. I thank You that Your son stood in the gap for me. I thank You that Your son, loved us so much that He was willing to be beaten and was crucified for me. Just for me Lord. Thank You. May Your tears of grace and mercy rain down upon Your saints this and everyday. Thank You Lord. Praise God. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

The Right to Choose

Understand that the right to choose your own path is a sacred privilege. Use it. Dwell in possibility. ~ Oprah Winfrey

Scripture:
Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge or showed him the path of understanding? Isaiah 40:14 (New International Version)

Our lives consist of a series of choices. Some of those choices, we make, while other choices are made for us. When we are young and unable to make our own decisions, our parents are there to make the right choices for us. However, as we grow in age and knowledge, we can begin to make our own informed choices.

There were times in my youth where I did not always make the right choice, or at the very least I made some pretty stupid choices. For example, I know that there were times in high school; I chose to do the wrong thing in an effort to be accepted by the “in crowd.” Many of my choices would later lead to a series of heartbreaks and disappointments for me later in life. I realize that even as an adult, many of my choices were still bad ones. There is one very important fact that I have come to realize though, it’s never too late to make the right choice.

When we choose good over bad, right over wrong, light over darkness; we are in fact making the right choice. Even when our lives seem to be out of sorts, the choices that we make can still bless us. You see, I prefer to praise God in the midst of my storms instead of singing the blues all of the time. Each morning when I rise, I choose to have a good day no matter how dismal the world around me appears to be. I want to be a writer so I make a conscience decision to work at my craft on a daily basis.

So often we take the privilege of choice for granted. We don’t realize that there are many people in this world who cannot make their own choices. Even in this great country of ours, the right to choose has been taken away for some who did not or could not make the right choice.

The right to choose is still yours to make. Will you make the right one?

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father, so often we feel that our lives are not our own. We believe that our destiny in life is chosen by others. Dear Lord, help us to remember that the choice is always ours. When we find ourselves caught up in wrong situations, help us to see our way out. When others see our failures, help us to realize our victories. Help us always to remember, that the right to choose is ours alone. Even You, give us the right to choose. May the choices and decisions I make in my life, be pleasing to You. May I always remember that many of the choices that I make will impact my life forever. Lord, I choose You. I am blessed, that You have also chosen me. I thank You Lord for loving me enough to choose me to serve You. Glory to God. Hallelujah. Thank You Father for the gift of life, Your Son and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is in his name that we pray. Amen.

Trapped in Bondage

Remember, Bondage is subjection to external influences and internal negative thoughts and attitudes. ~ W. Clement Stone

Scripture:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Romans 8: 1-8

This past week, I have heard on more than one occasion about how we are trapped in bondage. Things, people, situations, and experiences bind us and keep us from truly seeking God's word; Living our lives in the natural, going about our daily lives doing our own thing, and not seeking God or his council before we proceed with things, will put us in a trap.

The desires of our hearts and our selfish nature will cause us to do what we want to do and not what God has directed us to do. We become slaves to the very things that we thought would bring us pleasure. It’s not until we find ourselves caught up, strung out, and in a corner, will we bow down and seek God's council.

Saints, don't allow your selfish nature to keep you from seeking God's word. Don't allow things or people to put you in a trap.

Wake up and realize that when we seek God first, everything else will fall into place.

Be blessed

Prayer:
Father, we come once again seeking Your face and Your council. Help us Lord to put You first in everything that we do. Allow us to live our lives and see things, not in the natural but in the Spirit. Help us Lord to seek You first before we make our decisions. Help us Lord to learn to stop, be still, and take our concerns about life to the alter of sacrificing. Lord, continue to be with the Saints, their families, our friends, and our co-workers this day. Continue to bless those who have come asking for intercessory prayer. We ask that You would continue to grant us fresh grace and mercy this day and forever more. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Doing What God wants me to do

The time is always right to do what is right. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr

Scripture:
I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied. Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them. Then the LORD's anger will burn against you, and he will shut the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the LORD is giving you. Deuteronomy 11:15-17 (New International Version)

So often we are influenced by things other than God. What I mean by this statement is that there will be times in your lives that we will go against the very things that God does or does not want us to do. For example, as I arose this morning and prepared to go somewhere other than the house of the Lord, I found that I couldn't do it.

As I jumped in my car and headed to a breakfast that could possibly further my abilities as a writer, I found myself headed off to church instead. At that moment I couldn't tell you why, but during service the reason became clear. God had a word for me this morning that was just for me. It was time to come home.

You see, for the past couple of years my commitment to church had begun to wane. I found myself going to church less often. At first, my excuse was that Sundays were the only day I could devote to study for school. The irony in this statement is that I am pursuing a degree in religion. However, this year I have been unable to return to my studies and I began to come up with a new set of excuses; none of them really valid.

As I sat in my seat this morning listening to the man of God, I realized that I have not been doing what God wanted me to do. And that is, worshiping Him and fellowshipping with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I realized that even though I thought I had been doing what I was supposed to do, in reality, I wasn't. I have been trying to live my life around Him and He was no longer at the center of all that I do.

Yes, I have made some strides in my life without attending church, but I also realized that I have begun doing things that are outside of His will. In my pursuit to do what I wanted, I found myself doing things that I shouldn't. And that ain't right. I was no longer doing God's will. I realized in order to maintain God's blessings, I must return and do His will, not mine.

So brothers and sisters always remember, the will of God will never take where the grace of God cannot keep you, Where the arms of God cannot support you, Where the riches of God cannot supply your needs, Where the power of God cannot endow you.

Be blessed

Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever. Amen.

Temptation

Remember, 'Tis one thing to be tempted, another thing to fall.” ~ William Shakespeare

Scripture:
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:13

Sometime ago, I received a daily devotionals entitled "A word with you". It is written by Ron Hutchcraft. The message was about temptation. He spoke about how temptation is just deception in disguise. He spoke about how we reach out for something based on what it was supposed to give us, only to be disappointed when we found out what was really inside. That deception is in fact, the very nature of sin, and it's why we end up with scars and messes we never knew we would become a part of.

Temptations look promising on the outside. But lead to heartache and hurt on the inside. Sin conceals its ugliness and it destruction until you've already bitten the apple.

Temptations that may look good to you right now may say "pleasure" on the container - do this because it will feel good. Or maybe the package says "love" - do this and you'll get some love. The promise may be "relief" - a chance to escape from some hurt ... or maybe it says "significance" - do this and you'll get ahead, you'll feel important. But in reality, sin takes us further and further away from God. We must always be mindful of temptation.

We must always remember to put on our armor each and every day. We must always remember that satan is like a roaring lion, out to destroy you, your family, and your life. Lift up your shield of faith this morning and shout "Get behind thee satan, you are a liar and a thief and you cannot have anything that belongs to me or my family!"

Good habits result from resisting temptation.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Our Father, which art in heaven, holy, holy, holy is thy name. Father we come once again asking that we may not be led into temptation. Help us Lord, to be mindful of those things that would destroy us. Father, when we are faced with temptation, strengthen us Lord, that we may turn away from it and seek Your face instead. Father God, we ask and pray for Your strength today. Your word that we hide in our hearts. Keep us lord, forgive us Lord, and protect us Lord. Father we ask that You continue to touch the people in our lives whom we diligently pray for and with. Touch those who may be sick and may have given up hope. Father we know what the doctors have said, we know what the family wants, but we also know that all things are in divine order. We pray Your will in all of our situations today. We love You and Bless Your holy name. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen

Embracing God's Gifts

Remember, Don't let other people tell you what you want. ~ Pat Riley

Scripture:
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 (New International Version)

Not long ago a very good friend who happens to be a teacher wrote me to say how distraught she was because one of her most promising students was being discouraged from cultivating her talents. The thing that was most disturbing to her was that the person who was discouraging this gifted student was her mother. The person who had given birth to this girl, couldn’t see just how talented and blessed this young lady truly was.

As we journey through this life, there will be times when others will try to discourage us, even those who profess to love us will try to discourage us from what it is we are supposed to do. Whether it’s to pursue a dream of being a writer, a musician, doctor, lawyer, or even a follower of Christ.

Sometimes, because of things that they may have encountered in their own past that snuffed out their dreams, or maybe because they didn’t have the strength or courage to follow their OWN chosen path, our loved ones will try to extinguish the fire that burns in all of us.

Even as I pursue my dream of being a Christian Author, there have been those who are closest to me who cannot see what I see in myself. I love the word of God. Most of all, I love sharing my talent of the written word, with others.

Saints of God, don’t allow others to define who you are or what your talents are. If God has given you a gift, no matter what that gift may be, it is up to you to pursue your dreams. The world didn’t give you the gifts you posses, God did. It us up to you to cultivate that gift and follow your dreams.

In spite of!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, we come once again humbling ourselves before the throne of Grace. Lord, we know that we can do all things through Christ Jesus. It is because of Him, that we are who we are and do what we do. Abba, even when the world tries to define who I am, I recognize that I am a child of the Most High King. And because I belong to Him, I am set apart. Father, when others try to tell me that I can’t, help me always to be mindful of Your word that tells me I can. I can do all things through Christ Jesus; am more that a conqueror; I am the head and not the tail; I am above and not below. I am who I am, because God said I am. Glory Hallelujah, Praise God. Thank You Father for my gifts. Most of all thank You for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is in His name that we pray. Amen.

Your Change is on the Way

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another. ~Anatole France

Scripture:
As you come to him, the living Stone–rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him– you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame. 1 Peter 2:4-6

Saints, How many of you have been going through some things for what seems like a long time? How many of you are in a valley experience with no mountain-top in sight? How many of you feel that no matter how much you pray, fast and sacrifice, God doesn't seem to hear your prayers?

Well I don't know about you, but I raised my hand at each question. But as talked with my friend on the phone on my way to work this morning, something we both realized has happened. We have both changed over the years since we first met.

Things that would have sent me into a tailspin don't anymore. Instead of breaking down and crying about everything, I pray instead. Instead of talking about what others are doing to me, I talk about what God is doing in my life.

Now don't get me wrong. I still become sad and frustrated over things. I still worry about certain things, my children for example, but I have learned to depend on God more and more.
I realize that over these past few years, I have changed a lot of things about myself and how I am living. I realize that everything that the world accepts isn't what I am supposed to accept. I realize that God didn't save me for me; God save me for his edification.

I realized that God is still in control and if I just be step back, be still and know that he is God, Changing ain't that hard.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, as we face the dawning of a new day, we realize so does fresh grace and mercy. Thank You Father for a new beginning and new revelations. Lord, we come before the throne of grace once again, humbling our hearts, our minds and our spirits to pay homage to You. We bow our heads and lift our hands to glorify the name of the Lord. When we stop to think about Your goodness and Your mercies, we say thank You Lord that You remember me, a sinner who is not worthy. Father, we don't know what this day may bring, but the one thing that we do know is that You are with us always. During times of sadness, joy, despair, peace and even in the midst of the storm Your goodness and mercy are at our side. Lord, satan would have us believe that things in our lives will never change. We rebuke satan and his lies, in the name of Jesus. I am a new creature in Christ Jesus. I can do all things through Christ Jesus, who strengthens me. I am the head and not the tail, I am above and not below. Victory is mine, in the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Why Ya Playin?

God doesn't call us to be successful. He calls us to be faithful. ~ Unknown

Scripture:
I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:9-11

As I sat in church a few Sundays ago, listening to my Pastor talk about the promises of God, it caused me to think about what I wasn't doing for God in return for what he has done for me. You see, unlike God we are not forever faithful.

Now many of probably believe that you are being faithful, all the time. But if you take a really hard look at your life, like me, you will realize that there are probably some things in you life that God may not be pleased with. I won't go into detail about what my sins are, but I had to stop and say; My God, what am I doing!

You see, I realized that my sins were not big sins like, killing someone, robbing someone, or something that would cause harm to someone else. But I realized that my sins are enough to displease God and keep me from being Christ like. I realized that I was not truly doing what I was supposed to be doing. I realized that I was not living in appreciation for what Jesus had done for me on the Cross at Calvary.

So today I ask you, Why Ya Playin? Why Ya Playin at being more Christlike?

Why Ya Playin with God?

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, we come before the throne of grace to ask that You would forgive us Lord. Father, forgive us for not being as faithful to You as You are to us. Forgive us Lord, for not seeing our sins for what they truly are. Father, Search us Lord, cleans us Lord, convict us Lord. Help us Father to recognize the lies of satan. Father God, Your word tells us we are to not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Lord, help us to stop accepting everything that the world has to offer, but rather to seek Your kingdom first. We ask Lord, that You would give us a discerning spirit so that we can see sin for what it truly is; the lies of the evil one who seeks to destroy us. Father, we ask that You would continue to bless those saints who have come asking for intercessory prayer. Bless each and every saint reading this prayer right now, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

How Do Others See You?

Remember, we are not put on earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.” ~ Unknown

Scripture:
Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 1 Peter 3:4

Recently while talking to a couple of gentlemen whom I knew casually, one made a comment about me being a very classy lady and the other agreed. Later I thought about what that comment meant.

You see Saints, I always try to conduct myself not only as a lady at all times, but also as a child of God. Even though I don't go around quoting scripture and bible verses all the time, I try to convey the spirit of Christ in everything that I do and say.

I try to convey a loving, peaceful, and accepting spirit. I try to convey a spirit of compassion, of caring, and of virtue. I try to treat others like I would like to be treated; with love and respect. I try to do what God says I should do, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Not with piety, but with the true spirit of Christ.

So Saints I ask, how do others see you?

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, we come to You with a quiet and humble spirit asking that You would fill us with the power, love and humility of the Holy Spirit. Lord, may the things that we do and say today allow others to see Your works in our lives. May we learn this day to treat our fellow brothers and sisters with the love and respect that can only come from You. Continue to touch, bless, protect, and heal our family and friends who have asked for intercessory prayer. Father, we know that each and every one of us has trials and tribulations to go through, but we also know that we have the victory through the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. Amen.
