Learning to Give from Your Heart

Remember, We may not be able to give much but we can always give the joy that springs in a heart that is in love with God. ~ Mother Teresa

Scripture:
In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor. Acts 9:36 (New International Version)

I love to study the women of the bible. One of my favorites is a woman by the name of Dorcas. Dorcas stands out in the bible as a woman of good works and charitable deeds. While the record of her in the Christian Scripture is limited to a few verses in the ninth chapter of Acts, her example has inspired women throughout history to take upon themselves the needs of the poor.

Dorcas lived during the first century AD. She made her home in Joppa and was associated with a little band of Christians, most of whom were poor. Dorcas, herself, appeared to be a wealthy woman, for her charitable deeds were numerous.

Dorcas proved herself to be a real “doer” of the Word of God, not just a mere “hearer”. What is significant about the account of her life is that Dorcas not only thought up ways of relieving the needy, but she also carried out her plans. She knew what she could do and she did it! Among her charitable deeds was making clothes for widows and the needy of her church community with her own hands. She was not only willing to give money to a cause, but she was willing to invest herself in the works of kindness.

My admiration for this woman of God is grounded in her willingness to serve. Now I know that I am not a Dorcas. However, I do have a heart to serve. I am not a woman of means, but I do give what I can, when I can and I give it willingly. I give not only financially, but I give of myself. I am not afraid to reach out to others.

Today I challenge you my sisters and my brothers in Christ to become more like Dorcas and less like the selfish individuals we all can be. Giving doesn’t always have to be about money, it can be more about your times, your knowledge and your resources.

Remember, when you reach out to help others, your problems will miraculously seem not to be that big.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father in the name of Jesus, we who have chosen to fellowship together desire that our prayers avail much. Father we realize that You know what we have need of before we ask and that we are not all growing in the same manner or on the same time schedule, but we are growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I personally thank You Father for placing Angels in my life that help me to fly when I forget I have wings. I thank You Lord for the grace and mercy that You bestow not only on me but to every one of Your Saints. . We pray for all who have come before the throne of Grace, Kneeling before the mercy seat. Father, may we always be mindful to help those who are need. We ask Lord, for the courage and the conviction to reach out and help others who may be in need. Keep us all in Your care and under Your protection once again. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

Chasing the Wind

People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; Looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plaques them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within. ~ Unknown

Scripture:
I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men! I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 1:12-14 (New International Version)

The book of Ecclesiastes teaches that us a life not centered on God is purposeless and meaningless. Today’s lesson is about how some people can begin to put too much emphasis on “stuff.”

Sometimes we are so busy chasing after money, success and concern over what other people think about us, that we start looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places. The things that we begin to believe are the most important things in life, are the very things that we begin to chase after.

When we chase after fame, fortune and the opinions of others we are essentially saying that we have total control of our lives and that we don’t trust in the plans that God has for us. This is not to say that obtaining certain things in life is wrong or that we should feel guilty about it, but rather realizing that the collecting of things will not necessarily lead them to the road of happiness. Recognizing what is really important; God, family, and friends are more important than things.

Learning to embrace where you are in life, is sometimes more important than embracing the things that fill our lives. Recognizing where you are in your spiritual walk is often more important than the journey. Learning to enjoy who you are is more important than trying to impress others.

Saints of God, having things is not the most important thing in life. Having God and people who love you is far more important than any material thing that you could ever have. Having peace of mind, body and spirit is something that you will be able to keep with you always.

The most important lesson that any of us could ever learn, is to put God first in everything and He becomes our windbreaker.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, we come before the throne of grace with praise and thanksgiving on our tongues and in our hearts. We come asking Lord, for peace that passes all understanding. We come asking for strength to stand in the face of adversity. But most of all, we come asking with humbled hearts and minds, that You would hear our prayers and our petitions. Master, we need You to speak to the winds of adversity that are blowing against us, peace be still. We come asking that You hold on to our hands and the storms of life toss us about. We come asking that You would hide us under the wings of Your salvation as the roaring lions draws near in an effort to devour us. Lord, we ask that You would keep all of our families, friends, co-workers and brothers and sisters in perfect peace this and everyday. Bless us right now in the name of Jesus. Our prayers are not complete until we let You know just how much we love You. Our prayers on not complete until we sing songs of praise to You alone. Lord, we lift Your name on high, we give You all of our love, all of our praise and sing songs of praise all the day long. Thank You Lord for one more day. Bless You Lord. Hallelujah, Praise God thank You Jesus, Amen.

Finding Favor

Finding favor simply means that someone thought enough of you to give you something you did not earn or deserve.

Scripture:
He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil. He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage. Proverbs 11:26-28 New King James Version (NKJV)

Every now and then we all have our moments when we are given something we ourselves did not earn nor deserve. It might be something as simple as a seat on a bus or something so complex that is has the power to alter the course of our very lives. It may be something that seemed extremely small or inconsequential to the giver but meant and possibly changed the life of the receiver.

So very often in our lives it appears that the things we work the hardest for are always just beyond our reach. We do everything we think we are supposed to do and get the necessary help from those individual who are supposed to be there to help us and then,…. everything just seems to fall apart. That goal, that thing we worked so hard for is suddenly snatched away from us and placed just beyond our reach. We suddenly and unexpectedly are left speechless and immobilized, without a clue as what to do next.

Then you get a visit or a phone call out of the blue and the person on the other end is telling you come get your prize. That thing that was gone is now back in sight, bigger and better than ever and you have no idea what just happen. I just want you to know, Favor happened.

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield. Psalm 5:12

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, I come before the throne of grace seeking Your face and Your favor. Lord, often times I hear Your voice and tremble. I tremble because I know that I am not doing your will but rather following my own. Forgive me Lord. I pray that You would forgive me for my mistakes of yesterday and I pray that You would find favor with me once again. Lord, I come standing in the gap for my family and friends. I pray that we once again begin to recognize Your Grace, Mercy and Favor. Lord, help us to realize just how blessed we truly are. We may not have all that we want, but you continue to supply all of our needs. Lord, we just want to thank You for all that You have done in our lives and for all that You are about to do. Keep us all in perfect peace and help us to keep our minds and our hearts set on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In His name we pray. Amen.

Developing Self Discipline

Self-discipline is when your conscience tells you to do something and you don't talk back. ~ W.K. Hope

Scripture:
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 (New International Version)

Self-discipline refers to the training that one gives one's self to accomplish a certain task or to adopt a particular pattern of behaviour, even though one would really rather be doing something else. For example, denying oneself of an extravagant pleasure in order to accomplish a more demanding charitable deed. Thus, self-discipline is the assertion of willpower over more base desires, and is usually understood to be a synonym of 'self control'.

As a writer, I am often asked; how do you find time to write? My standard answer is that I make time. I have disciplined myself to make time to do what it is I need to do to accomplish my dreams. Writing is important to me and when we realize those things in our lives that matter most to us, we will do whatever is necessary to accomplish them.

I have also realized that being a Christian also takes self-discipline. It is so easy to take for granted our relationship with God. We can always find time to do everything else in our lives so why do we find it so hard to spend time with God?

When things are going well in our lives, we tend to want to put God on the back burner. Then when things start going awry, we panic because we have neglected to keep Him in the forefront of all that we do. When we make it a habit to do those things in our lives that are important, we learn to listen to our conscience and not talk back.

When we get in the habit of having a daily talk with God, He will become all the conscious you need.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father, help us to guard our minds this and every day. When we grow weak and tired, allow a small wind, Your breath of life, to gently caress our faces, letting us know that You are right there with us. When we grow weary and almost faint, let the bread of life and the living waters, Your word, revitalize us. Father, even in our storms, we must always remember to stop and give You thanks. Even when life is assailing us, we must stop and praise Your name. Even when it seems like we don't have the strength to take one more step, we must muster the strength to uplift and exalt Your most holy name. My Lord, help us always to be mindful and protect our thoughts from the one who seeks to destroy us. Help us to remember to always guard our hearts and minds from those things that are not of You. Father, continue to be with those who are in the hospital, who are ill, who are grieving, who are faced with the challenges of the world. Father God I say a special prayer for my friends and I who are mothers. Strengthen us and give us  what we need to protect our greatest gifts, our  children. Many are leaving our nest to start their lives as college students. Guide, protect and cover them Lord, we realize that satan is out to destroy our families. We come standing in the gap and standing on Your word. We claim our children in the name of Jesus. We plead the blood of the Lamb over our babies and we refuse to give up on them. We ask and pray these things in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

You Don't Know My Story

Everybody has a story because everyone has a past.  You don’t know my story nor do I know yours.  However, I do know grace and mercy.

Scripture:
He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities.  You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.  You will give truth to Jacob and mercy to Abraham, which You have sworn to our fathers from days of old.  Micah 7:18-20 New King James Version (NKJV)

I have mentioned on more than one occasion that I love gospel music. No matter what you may be going through, there is always a song that can describe situations and emotions that you may have difficulty verbalizing.  One of my favorite artists is John P. Kee and New Life.  He has a song entitled “Life and Favor (You don’t Know My Story)” and it has quickly become one of my all-time favorites.

One of the reasons I love this song is it because it describes me.  I don’t know about any of you but me, I have a past and it’s only by the grace of God that I am still standing here to tell you about His grace and mercy.  You see, I have done and been through some-things that should have indicated otherwise.

People often comment on how inspiring I can be, but what they don’t know is my story.  No matter what I have faced, He has been there to catch me when I fell.  No matter how low-down and dirty my life got, he always managed to send me the help I needed to get back up and fight another day.  Even today, when I felt out of sorts and at my wits ends, He sent me an angel who reminded me that He’s got me.  She wrapped her loving arms around me and prayed me through.

She reminded me that no-one but God, knows my story or what I am faced with.  She reminded that my battle is not with my circumstances but with the principalities of darkness.  She reminded me that no matter what I am going through, God has given me life and favor.

She reminded me that it is not necessary for others to know my story because God knows my heart.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, I come before the throne of grace to say thank You.  Thank You Lord for life and favor.  Thank You Father for the angels that You Place in my life to remind that I got wings and can soar above all the muck and mire of whatever it is I may be facing.  Thank You Lord for women like Ms. Melissa and Ms. Sandy.  Thank You Lord for teaching me how to sing  Hallelujah anyhow.  Lord forgive me for ever doubting that You are with me, even in my darkest hours.  Thank you Father for the song You have placed in my heart.  I love You, I praise You, I thank You Lord as I submit this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

What do You Really Want?

Prayer is not asking for what you think you want, but asking to be changed in ways you can't imagine. ~Kathleen Norris

Scripture:
What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures James 4:1-3

Have you ever wondered what is it you really want? When asked that question, some don't hesitate to say riches. Others would say a spouse, some say peace. And others still would say health. But what do you really want? How much do you really examine those things that you seek after.

"I want riches", until I saw riches couldn't buy happiness. "I want a spouse", until I saw that my spouse didn't treat me the way God wanted them to. "I want to work for myself", until I realized that I was a horrible employee and wanted to fire me.

You see, we all want something. Sometimes even we don't really know what it is we truly want. We just know that something is missing. Personally, I want a better relationship with God. You see, when you have a relationship with God, he will guide and direct you and tell you what you need. Not only that, "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

So the next time you feel as though something is missing and you don't know what it is; try God, he can and will supply all that you need.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I come before You. Spirit of Truth, Who comes from the Father, it is You Who guides me into all truth. According to 3 John 2, it is God’s will that I prosper in every way and that my body keeps well, even as my soul keeps well and prospers. One thing I ask of You, Lord, one thing will I seek after, inquire for and require, that I may dwell in Your presence all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon Your beauty. Father, You have said, I will not in any way fail You nor give You up nor leave You without support. So I take comfort and am encouraged and confidently and boldly say that the Lord is my Helper. In the name of Jesus, I am strong and very courageous, that I may do according to all Your Word. I turn not from it to the right hand or to the left that I may prosper wherever I go. The Word of God shall not depart out of my mouth, but I shall meditate on it day and night. I hear therefore and am watchful to keep the instructions, the laws and precepts of my Lord God, that it may be well with me and that I may increase exceedingly, as the Lord God has promised me, in a land flowing with milk and honey. The Lord my God is one Lord — the only Lord. And I shall love the Lord my God with all my mind and heart. Jesus, You said that when I do this I will live — enjoy active, blessed, endless life in the Kingdom of God. Therefore, I will not worry or be anxious about what I am going to eat, or what I am going to have to drink or what I am going to have to wear. My heavenly Father knows that I need them all. But I purpose in my heart to seek for, aim at and strive after, first of all Your Kingdom, Lord, and Your righteousness. Now thanks be to You, Father for all of Your magnificent blessings. We come thanking You not only for what You have done, but also for what You are about to do in our lives. We love You Lord, we Thank You Lord. Blessed is the name of the Lord. Praise be to God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Praise God. Amen

God gives Second Chances, Why Won't You?

We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less a second chance. ~ Harrison Ford

Scripture:
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. Mark 11:25 (New International Version)

Recently, I met a young lady who told me that she was having trouble reconnecting with the church because of how she was being treated. As a young lady in high school, she was raped and as a result, turned into a teenaged alcoholic. During that period in her life, she did things out of hurt and anger in a very public way. As a result, people didn’t think about what had happened to her but rather her new behavior.

She has since stopped drinking and is the shameless actions of the church members almost chased her away. Here she was, in God’s house seeking redemption and members of the church congregation where treating her as if she was a leper.

Saints of God, this is not the first time I have seen or heard of this type of behavior in God’s house. Some people would rather look at who you were rather than who you are trying to become. Saved, sanctified and renewed by the Holy Spirit. The want to remember what you used to do rather than what you are trying to become; A child of the most High King.

The word of God admonishes us not to judge others. That’s His job. Yet, we do it every day. We like to point fingers and talk about your past rather than reach out a loving hand to help you on your Christian walk. We would rather sit back and wait for you to fail instead of lifting you up.

Remember Saints of God, when you point a finger at someone else, four more are pointing back at you.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Lord, Lord, forgive us for our wicked tongues. Lord, keep us so that we may not sin against one another with words. Father, we know that there is power in the tongues of Your saints. So today Lord, we Your saints of God will bless not only You, but we will continuously bless our brothers and sisters in Christ. Father, when we are approached with idle gossip about someone, rather than join in on the conversation, help us to lift that person up in praise and spirit. Lord, keep us from being judgmental against one another and to show the love of Jesus Christ in everything that we do and say. We love You Lord. We Bless Your holy name. Cover Your saints today with the blood of salvation. Keep us Lord, so that we may not sin against one another. We ask these and all things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

It's All in Divine Order!

Whenever I feel that I am confused or that my life is in disorder, I remember these words from the book of Proverbs: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart ... In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths."These simple words reaffirm what I know in my heart is true: He is always with me, enfolding me in love and assuring me that all is in divine order. Divine order is His plan for me. Relying on my Higher Power calms my thoughts. I feel secure because I know that He will lead me to the people and events which will contribute to my spiritual growth and fulfillment. All is in divine order because He is the order that supports and surrounds me. ~ unknown

Scripture:
for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Philippians 2:13 (New International Version)

Saints of God, so often we give pause and reflect on the direction our lives are headed in. We seem to be moving right along through life, when something or someone happens to derail us from our chosen course. Well Saints of God, I am here to tell you; “It’s all in Divine Order.”

The job or career that you have chosen hasn’t worked out the way you thought it would. The house you wanted so much to buy was bought by someone else. The man or woman that you thought you were going to marry marries someone else. The dreams and goals that you had in life seem to have fallen by the wayside. I just want to tell you, “It’s all in Divine Order.”

So often the things that we want in life aren’t the things that God wants for us. The path that we ourselves have chosen isn’t necessarily the road that God wants us to travel. Even the person we thought we would spend the rest of our lives with, aren’t inevitably the person we are supposed to be yoked with.

Too often we go through life trying to do everything on our own without seeking a word from God. We set our sights on things that may turn out to be detrimental to our overall well being. We even fall in love with people who we will give our all to, but who themselves aren’t capable of loving us the way God wants them to love us.

I say all this to say, that no matter what obstacles are in your way. It doesn’t matter if your heart has been broken, that you lost your job, or that you are not at the place in your life you think you should be. “It’s all in Divine Order."

Sometimes things have to be the way they are because your plan for your life isn’t God’s plan for your life. Learn to be still, listen for His still small voice, and realize;

That’s it’s All in Divine Order!

Be blessed

Prayer:
Father God, we come once again with praises on our tongues and humility in our hearts, seeking Your face, Your grace and Your mercy. Lord, forgive us for doubting You when the things in our lives are not going according to our plans. We realize that everything that we want isn’t necessarily what You want for us. Help us to recognize the bad choices that we have made in our lives, correct them accept them and move on. Help us Father, to find our way. Lord, we pray ask for a spirit of discernment so that we can recognize when our will is not inline with Yours. Help us to remember to always seek you in everything that we do, before we make life altering choices and to be still in the midst of our storms. Thank you Father, for reminding us that You have provided the way out of darkness and into the light. Your Word and Your Son, Jesus Christ. Our Redeemer. It is in His name that we humbly submit our prayers. Amen
