Everybody wants to be a Star

Everybody wants to be a star but nobody wants to do the work to polish it.

Scripture:
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23 (New International Version)

Recently I had a conversation with a friend regarding our writing journeys. We talked about how some people start on the journey with great zeal and talent, but after awhile if they have not received the recognition they believe they deserve, they will give up and quit. I find this to be true about quite a few things in life. We start our journeys with a desire to do well and achieve great things but over the course of time if we do not see the wanted outcome, we give up and quit. Having the desire to do something great is one thing, but actually having the tenacity to see it through is another.

If you look closely at successful people, you will see that contrary to popular belief, their successes did not come overnight. Recently, I watched the story of Jennifer Hudson and her climb to fame. She recognized at an early age that she had both the talent and the desire to become a great singer. She even made it to the pinnacle of reality television stardom on “American Idol.” However, after she was eliminated and the American Idol tour was over, she returned to a life of almost obscurity when she did not immediately obtain her dream. I’m sure it was enough to make her want to quit; but she didn’t. Instead, she dug her heals in and got right back out there trying to make her dreams a reality. And finally, she did.

I find this same reality to be true of so many wanna-be Christians as well. They accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and want to believe that suddenly they will become a superstar on their Christian walk. But then life continues to happen. The stress and strife that they thought would miraculous cease to exist remains and in most cases actually intensifies. Their faith is tested almost on a daily basis. And instead of staying on the battlefield to fight the good fight of faith, they throw down their spiritual weapons and return to the life they were most comfortable with.

What each of us must always keep in mind is that anything worth achieving will take hard work and perseverance, including a right relationship with God. Things will come against us that will try to turn us away from our chosen course. The key is remembering that there is no true success without trials and tribulations along the way and rather than give up and give in, we must stay the course so at the end of the journey we can hear these words:

“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.”

Be Blessed

Prayer:
I will Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto mine own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Lord, we come before the throne of grace once again asking that You would forgive us in our unbelief. We come asking that You, who are rock and our salvation, would help us to starve our fears and doubts and feed our faith. Lord, I personally ask for forgiveness and direction for myself. I know that sometimes, we take You for granted and in doing so, leave ourselves open to attack. Lord, we stand before You again, putting on the whole armor of God. The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, wielding our shield of faith and the sword of the spirit, and placing upon our heads, the helmet of salvation. Lord, let us always be diligent against attacks from he who seeks to destroy us. Continue to bless our brothers and sisters in Christ. Continue to anoint our leaders. Help us always to be able to call upon the name of the Lord in our times of distress. Thank You Lord, for Your faithfulness. Thank You Lord, for Your covering. Thank You Lord that You pick us up, when we have been knocked down. We will praise the name of the Lord at all times, and His praises shall continuously be in our mouths. Praise His name saints of God. Glory hallelujah, thank You Jesus, in whose name we pray, Amen.

What Does God Say?

Remember, The Devil fears the word of God, He can't bite it; it breaks his teeth. ~ Martin Luther.

Scripture:
For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13

Saints of God, how many of you believe what God says? As I lay in bed early in the morning, I reflected on some of the things that He has said to me.

You know what He told me? He told me I can do all things through Christ Jesus. He told me; Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward. For the LORD your God will bless you just as He promised you. The LORD your God is He who fights for you, as He promised you. He told me; "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

And you know what else? God cannot lie. The LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations. His mercy endures forever. God heals, He protects, He strengthens, He hides us, He renews, and He hears our cries. The Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces.

He is a God of comfort. "Comfort, yes, comfort my people!" Says your God. But most of all he is a God of forgiveness. Who loves us so much that He sacrificed His only begotten Son so that you and I could come before the throne of grace.

So my brothers and sisters, today let's stand on the word of God. He hasn't failed us yet!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your word. Thank You father for being faithful, even when we are not. Thank You for keeping us safe and warm, for providing all of our needs and even some of our wants. Thank You Lord, for the sword of the Spirit; You word that never fails us. Your word, that says we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us. Your word, that soothes our soul, calms the winds and the rains, keeps me safe and secure when I find myself all alone late in the midnight hour. Thank You Lord for allowing us to come before the throne of grace once again. We Love You Lord, We Praise You Lord. We Bless You Holy Name. Amen.

God Gives Second Chances, Why won't You?

We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less a second chance. ~ Harrison Ford

Scripture:
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. Mark 11:25 (New International Version)

Recently, I met a young lady who told me that she was having trouble reconnecting with the church because of how she was being treated. As a young lady in high school, she was raped and as a result, turned into a teenaged alcoholic. During that period in her life, she did things out of hurt and anger in a very public way. As a result, people didn’t think about what had happened to her but rather her new behavior.

She has since stopped drinking and is the shameless actions of the church members almost chased her away. Here she was, in God’s house seeking redemption and members of the church congregation where treating her as if she was a leper.

Saints of God, this is not the first time I have seen or heard of this type of behavior in God’s house. Some people would rather look at who you were rather than who you are trying to become. Saved, sanctified and renewed by the Holy Spirit. The want to remember what you used to do rather than what you are trying to become; A child of the most High King.

The word of God admonishes us not to judge others. That’s His job. Yet, we do it every day. We like to point fingers and talk about your past rather than reach out a loving hand to help you on your Christian walk. We would rather sit back and wait for you to fail instead of lifting you up.

Remember Saints of God, when you point a finger at someone else, four more are pointing back at you.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Lord, Lord, forgive us for our wicked tongues. Lord, keep us so that we may not sin against one another with words. Father, we know that there is power in the tongues of Your saints. So today Lord, we Your saints of God will bless not only You, but we will continuously bless our brothers and sisters in Christ. Father, when we are approached with idle gossip about someone, rather than join in on the conversation, help us to lift that person up in praise and spirit. Lord, keep us from being judgmental against one another and to show the love of Jesus Christ in everything that we do and say. We love You Lord. We Bless Your holy name. Cover Your saints today with the blood of salvation. Keep us Lord, so that we may not sin against one another. We ask these and all things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

There is Value in the Valley

As you walk through the valley of the unknown, you will find the footprints of Jesus both in front of you and beside you. ~ Charles Stanley

Scripture:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, (Or through the darkest valley) I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:3-5 (New International Version)

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of reading a wonderful book by Iyanla Vanzant, titled, “There is Value in the Value.” It was a very motivational book about how going through a valley has its benefits. Now the dictionary defines a valley as; A broad area of low-lying land situated between hills or mountains and usually having a river or stream flowing along its bottom.

Many Christians will talk about a valley experience. A valley experience can mean that you are at a low point in your life. A valley experience could be the loss of a job, loss of loved one, financial difficulties, Strife in your relationships, or a wayward spouse or child. A valley experience can even be a life threatening illness. Each and everyone one of us will at some point in our lives, go through a valley experience.

However, as Ms. Vanzant so eloquently reminds us, there is value in the valley. What this means is that sometimes, being in a valley can actually benefit us. Going through a valley is just a journey from one point to another. While we may not actually enjoy the journey, there are many things that can be learned along the way.

For example, if we take the time and look around our valley, we often see things in our lives more clearly. Maybe that relationship we fought so hard to keep wasn’t really the type of relationship God wanted us to be in. Maybe the job that we lost actually prevented us from spending time with our loved ones and actually stressed us out to the point that we couldn’t really enjoy the prosperity that it brought. And as strange as it may sound, sometimes we create our own financial difficulties by not trusting God with our finances and seeking possessions that don’t necessarily bring us happiness.

Whatever valley you may be in right now, take the time and learn from it. It may be a lesson in humility and obedience. When you are at a low point in your life, always remember to look up.

Learn to appreciate all of your blessings in the valley.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
I love the Lord. He heard my cry. And even as I walk through the valleys of life, He is with me always. Goodness and mercy are at my side. He covers and protects me in the blood of the Lamb. Thank You Lord. Father we come asking that You would give us the strength, the peace and the patience to make it through whatever valley we may go through this day. We come asking that even as we find ourselves in the valley, we know that we are never alone. Lord, as I look around me and see others in the valley with me, may something that I do or say; encourage them to stay their course. Father, I ask that You would touch my brothers and sisters who find themselves in that valley. Lord, let them know that they too are never alone. Thank You Father for allowing us to come before Your throne of grace one more time. Thank You Father, for listening to us, one more time. Thank You Lord, for blessing us, one more time. Praise His name, saints of God. Lord, we lift Your name on high. We sing songs of praise even in the valley low. We will sing songs of praise, when we reach our mountain top. Thank You Lord, Bless You Lord. Hallelujah, praise God. Amen.

Remember, The difference between school and life; In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson. ~ Tom Bodett

Scripture:
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5

How many of you know that every day we have a test? Everyday life can be a test. We are often tested to see what we know. Sometimes we are tested to see if we will do the right thing. If you are a parent, your children will often test your patience. Your boss, your skills, and sometimes, your mate will test your love for them.

In the book of Exodus, the children of Israel were tested by God to see if they could follow His instructions. He provided Manna for their nourishment. They were told to go out and gather only what was needed for the day. Now being that men will be men, some gathered more than was needed and tried to save some for later. But the next day, the Manna that was saved was full of maggots and smelled.

Even though the Israelites had seen God perform great miracles and supply all that was needed, some still couldn't pass the test. Sometimes, we forget what we have learned. When it comes time for our test, we barely get a passing grade.

Sometimes we forget how important our tests can be. Our tests are the things that increase our knowledge and our faith. Our tests are life’s lessons. We have been given all of the answers for our test.

All we have to do is read our Basis Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

And remember, there is to Testimony without the test.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father, we come before the throne of grace to thank You for all of our blessings. We thank You Lord, for supplying all of our needs. We thank You for the book of life that teaches us and guides us in all that we do. Thank You Gather for all that we are and all that You are to us. Praise God. Amen.

A Song of Faith

Remember, A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song. ~ Maya Angelou

Scripture:
Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. James 5:13 (New International Version)

I love music. I love gospel music, jazz, beautiful ballads, and sweet love songs. I love music that is upbeat, slow and mellow and music that makes you cry. I love to hear a song that draws you in with its mystical melody and soul stirring lyrics. When it come to music, I am pretty eclectic.

Now, for the real; I can’t sing. I have a voice that makes you cry but not it a good way. But, that’s okay. Unlike some wanna-be American Idols, I know the limitations of my voice. I am a realist and know that singing is not my gift. However, it doesn’t stop me from singing songs of praise!

One of my favorite songs is His Eyes Is on the Sparrow. This particular song speaks so much to my relationship with God. Sparrows are tiny little birds that are generally dull colored--brown, gray, white, or pale yellow--and have cone-shaped bills. Usually, if you don’t hear them singing, you won’t even notice them.

Now personally, I don’t know much about the motivation of the song writer for this particular song, but when I look at it the meaning of the words, I see me. You see, I am small, brown and kinda dull looking. There is nothing about my appearance that makes me stand out. However, because of what I do, write that is, I draw attention to myself. You see, writing for me, is my song. My devotionals are my love songs to God. I sing songs of praise to Him through my written word.

Even though my intent in these messages is to bring a sense of comfort and hope in the words that I write, I don’t have the answers for life’s most difficult problems. My hope is in Christ Jesus.

So you see; I sing because I’m Happy, I sing because I’m free. His Eyes is on the Sparrow; so I know he’s watching me!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me. Father God, when I hear the words of this song, I am immediately at peace. I thank You Father for giving me that sense of peace through the gift of song. Lord, I thank You for allowing me to come before the throne of grace to sing songs of praise and worship to You. Blessed is Your most Holy Name and I am blessed that I can freely call upon the name of the Lord, whenever I feel the need. Father God, I ask that You would continue to bless those who come seeking a word of encouragement. Touch now Lord Jesus; giving them peace that passes all understanding. Help us always to be mindful of our many blessings. But most of all let us never forget just how blessed we are because of the death and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Can You See the Stars?

When it is dark enough, you can see the stars. ~ Charles A. Beard

Scripture:
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (New King James Version)

Every day, we see or hear of people who inspire us. Our president inspires us because of his humanity. Our teachers inspire us with their wealth of knowledge. Our church leaders inspire us because of their relationship with God. Our parents inspire us, well because they are our parents.

Then there are those whose abilities in their chosen fields inspire us because they have the ability to excel beyond what we can humanly imagine. I am talking about the Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates of the world. These seemingly normal looking human beings have not only excelled, but they have done things that far exceed our expectations. These are our superstars. Did you know that you too can be a superstar? All you have to do is do the very best you are capable of.

Personally, I want to be a superstar for Christ. Now, some of you may ask; what is she talking about? Well, to me being a superstar for Christ simply means that I have my goal securely focused in my path. I want to touch lives for Christ. I want to tell everyone I know about my God. I want people to see how Jesus works in my life and strive to have an ever better relationship with Him then they think is possible.

There are people all around us who stand out for one reason or another. Even during what appears to be turning into one of mankind’s darkest hours. It is at times like these that we must allow the light of Christ that burns deep inside of each and every one of us to emanate from within and light up the darkest corners of our world. Each of us must decide that we too can be superstars and let others know that all we have to do during these dark and trying times is turn to the word of God for a ray of hope.

Each of us must allow our stars to shine and illuminate the world around us.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Lord, though the world all around me is lost in darkness and despair, I will seek out the face of my Savior Jesus Christ and it is at those moments I will realize that He is with me even in my darkest hour. Lord, my heart becomes heavy when I look around and see the despair and hopelessness of a sin sick world. Father God, we need You know more than ever. When I become distraught and fear that I won’t be able to take another step, the Power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within me comforts me and lets me know that this too shall pass. Thank You Lord for Jesus, the Light of the world. Father God as we begin again, I thank You for my second chance. Yes Lord, I messed up but You forgave me. Yes Lord, I said and did some things that were not pleasing to You, but You wiped away my sins with Your Blood. Thank You. Now Lord, we ask that You would continue to guide and direct us and when we fear that we may lose our way in this darkened world, all we have to do is look up. For You are with us always, even until the end of time. Thank You. We submit this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, amen.

Embracing God's Gift

Remember, Don't let other people tell you what you want. ~ Pat Riley

Scripture:
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 (New International Version)

Not long ago a very good friend who happens to be a teacher wrote me to say how distraught she was because one of her most promising students was being discouraged from cultivating her talents. The thing that was most disturbing to her was that the person who was discouraging this gifted student was her mother. The person who had given birth to this girl, couldn’t see just how talented and blessed this young lady truly was.

As we journey through this life, there will be times when others will try to discourage us, even those who profess to love us will try to discourage us from what it is we are supposed to do. Whether it’s to pursue a dream of being a writer, a musician, doctor, lawyer, or even a follower of Christ.

Sometimes, because of things that they may have encountered in their own past that snuffed out their dreams, or maybe because they didn’t have the strength or courage to follow their OWN chosen path, our loved ones will try to extinguish the fire that burns in all of us.

Even as I pursue my dream of being a Christian Author, there have been those who are closest to me who cannot see what I see in myself. I love the word of God. Most of all, I love sharing my talent of the written word with others.

Saints of God, don’t allow others to define who you are or what your talents are. If God has given you a gift, no matter what that gift may be, it is up to you to pursue your dreams. The world didn’t give you the gifts you posses, God did. It us up to you to cultivate that gift and follow your dreams.

In spite of!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, we come once again humbling ourselves before the throne of Grace. Lord, we know that we can do all things through Christ Jesus. It is because of Him, that we are who we are and do what we do. Abba, even when the world tries to define who I am, I recognize that I am a child of the Most High King. And because I belong to Him, I am set apart. Father, when others try to tell me that I can’t, help me always to be mindful of Your word that tells me I can. I can do all things through Christ Jesus; am more that a conqueror; I am the head and not the tail; I am above and not below. I am who I am, because God said I am. Glory Hallelujah, Praise God. Thank You Father for my gifts. Most of all thank You for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is in His name that we pray. Amen.

Note:
Today I received a copy of my second novel “Caught in the Middle.” Had I not embraced my God given talent and gifts and listened to those naysayers, I wouldn’t be living my dream and celebrating my victories. Always remember to embrace who you are, listen to the voice of God and follow your heart!

How Long?

Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow - that is patience. ~ unknown

Scripture:
How long, O LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, "Violence!" but you do not save? Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. Habakkuk 1:2-3

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. In my distress I called to the LORD ; I cried to my God for help.

God Said, "My Grace is Sufficient".

But Father; Yet I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD , do not delay.

God said, "My Mercy is Everlasting".

But Lord, I'm Begging, Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place. "Do not close your ears to my cry for relief." Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.

I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

Lord, I cannot endure any longer. Life is too hard, my trials and tribulations are too great. My suffering is overwhelming.

He said "I will refine you like silver and test you like gold. You will call on my name and I will answer you; I will say, 'They are my people,' and they will say, 'The LORD is our God.' "In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus

Christ is revealed."Praise be to the LORD , for he has heard my cry for mercy. God, who helps me, who blesses me with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below. is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.

For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Great is thy Faithfulness, O'Lord. Thank You Father for trials and tribulations. Thank You Lord, for comforting me when the tears begin to flow. Thank You Lord, for blessing me and keeping me. Lord, we ask that You would continue to hide us under the wings of Your salvation. When we falter, catch us. When we want to give up, don't let go. Thank You Father for Your faithfulness. We love You. We praise You. We exalt and uplift Your name. Amen.

Displaying and Act of Kindness

Remember, Kindness has converted more sinners than zeal, eloquence, or learning. ~ Frederick W. Faber

Scripture:
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12 (New International Version)

Recently after picking up my youngest son from our neighborhood Boys and Girls Club, I dropped him off at the local McDonald’s while I ran into a nearby grocery store. My son Joseph had asked for a few dollars to get something to eat to tide him over until I could go home and prepare dinner. When I finished making my purchases and exited from the store, I saw my son standing by my car.

I was a little surprised to see him so soon and asked had he gotten his burger? He response was, “yes, but I gave it to a homeless man who was sitting inside the restaurant. He looked hungry so I gave him my burger.” I was pleasantly shocked.

You see, on several different occasions my son had been with me when people asked us for money. I have always tried to make it a habit to give them something. Usually, I give the money to my son to give to the person asking. He once asked why I gave our money away.

I explained to my son that most homeless people aren’t homeless by choice. Something happened in their lives that created their current condition. I further explained that yes, many of them where on drugs or alcoholics, but that it is not our place to judge them. We don’t know what caused them to turn to drugs or alcohol, and maybe, just maybe by showing them some compassion, it might just give them a little bit of hope to try to change things.

Now some people would call us foolish, stating that they were just going to buy more drugs or alcohol. My position is this, maybe they won’t. How can we expect anyone to change if they don’t see any hope around them?

My baby boy is learning how to be compassionate. He saw a man in need and gave all that he had.

Isn’t that a great lesson for all of our children to learn?

Be Blessed.

Prayer:
I complained I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet. Lord, so often we complain about how difficult our lives are without realizing just how blessed we are. We complain about our jobs, without thinking about the man or woman who wished they had one. We complain about are spouses, but give nary a thought to the man or woman who cries out every night for a mate. We complain about our children, without giving thought to the woman who can never bear her own. Lord, forgive me for my complaints. Thank You Lord, for all of my many blessings. I thank You for my job, my children, my home, my family and my friends. Thank You Father for the roof that has been provided over my head. Thank You Lord, for the food on my table. Thank You Father for all the little things that I so often take for granted. Thank You Lord, for my children, who are a gift from You. Thank You Lord, for the compassion that You show to me, a sinner who was destined for hell. But You saw me and reached out to me. For that I am grateful. I give thanks to You oh great Jehovah, for giving me the eternal gift of life through Your Son, Jesus Christ. It is in His name that we submit this prayer. Amen.

Fight Back!

Don’t focus on what you’re going through; focus on where you’re going to! ~ Unknown

Scripture:
For the Lord your God will go with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. Deuteronomy 20:4

Recently as I sat church listening to my Pastor speak a word, I was moved by what he had to say. He told the story of how King David had returned from battle and found that his home had been conquered, burnt to the ground and his wives and children taken into captivity. Those who had gone into battle with him were angry with King David because they felt that if they had not been away in battle with him, they would have been at home to protect their own families. David began to experience a spirit of defeat.

At first he got angry and just wanted to give up. But then he went to God and asked if he should go after what had been taken from him and get it back. God’s answer was yes; he would overtake them and get back all that was his.

Just like King David many of us will return home and find that the enemy has taken or destroyed all that we have. It could be in the form of a devastating financial lost, the breakup of our marriages, or even the loss of our relationship with God himself. It is at these times that the devil will move in for the kill. Remember, his job is to kill, steal, and destroy.

It is at these times that we may experience division with our loved ones, a spirit of defeat, discouragement and distraction from what our God given purpose is. It is at these times when it’s okay to get mad and say “I’m mad and I’m not going to take it anymore.” In other words, there comes a time when it’s necessary to fight back.

There will be times in your live when you feel as though you have no control over your lives and that’s okay because it is at times like these when God can show up and show out. So often we will not be the one who has the last word regarding our situations. However, there is one who does and his name is Jehovah Jirah, my provider. Elohim, God of total power, and finally Jehovah Nissi my banner who goes before me. The key is being able to know when you are weak. It is at those times when God will be your strength.

If we would just learn to let go and let God have his way.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, I come kneeling at the throne of grace humbly asking that You would hear my prayer. Lord, I realize that there are times in my life when I wanted to do things my way and because of my stiff neck, I failed to surrender my will to Yours and I stumbled and faltered. Lord, I come before the altar of sacrificing admitting that I have not always done things Your way and because of that, I have lost my way and all that You have given to me. Lord, I ask that You would be my strength and my banner, leading me into battle to take back all that the devil has tried to steal from me. You are my strength and my stronghold. I surrender my will to Yours as I let go all of my problems and surrender them to you. For I am weak and I need Your strength to regain my rightful place in the kingdom. Lord, I thank You for my blessings and my breakthroughs. I thank You for not only what You have done but also what You are about to do in my life. I bless Your name Father as I give thanks for the one who intercedes on my behalf, Christ Jesus. It is in His name that I submit this prayer. Amen.

God is Always on Time

“Don't be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, inasmuch as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and every fresh experience points out some” ~ John Keats

Scripture:
But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

How many of you become worried and discouraged at times? How many of you feel punch drunk from all of the hits that life throws at you? How many of you have been knocked down to you knees or flat on your back by things thrown your way? How many of you feel that you have reached the end of your rope?

So often others try to tell us that what we feel is wrong. It's not. They will say, we don't trust God. We do. They tell us we have no faith. we do, some days a little more than others.

Saints, I just want you to know that everyone will get a little discouraged sometimes. Each of us will cry tears of sorrow. Every last single one of us will be knocked down by life and have doubts about our situations. Many of the greatest people in the bible experienced their own doubts. Moses, Abraham, Peter, and even Mary, mother of Jesus.

However, each and every one of them learned to listen to the voice of God. Each and every one of them learned to wait on God. Each and every one of them allowed themselves to be led by God.

Each and everyone of them learned that he is an on time God! Yes he is!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Thank You Jesus, that faith is not an emotion that I need to work up inside of me. Instead, it is a gift You give to me as I commit myself to You. Help each of us to grow in faith. Father, sometimes we become discouraged because things do not happen the way we hoped that they would. Help us to learn to be patient and not count on hope but to stand on our faith and know that in Your time, the things that You want for our lives will come to pass. Father, You have said that if we have the faith of a mustard seed and say to that mountain, that thing that stand in our way, be it sickness, poverty, bills, wayward children, cheating spouses, it will be cast into the sea. Father, we come believing that You will grant us the desires of our hearts according to thy tender mercies and through the blood of Jesus Christ, it is in his name we pray. Amen.

Ain't That Good News

Remember, How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of those. ~ George Washington Carver

Scripture:
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

Saints, how many of you have been blessed by God? Do you ever have pause to stop and look around and just start thanking God for everything He has done for you? Or are you constantly complaining about what you don't have and what God hasn't done for you? Periodically, we must start reflecting on just how much God has done for us. You may not be totally satisfied with your circumstances, but trust me, no matter how bad things may seem, they could always be a lot worst.

I see the homeless and thank God that I have a home. I see those who have lost their minds and I thank God for keeping me in my right mind. I may not have a husband, but I thank God that I don't have a husband who beats me just because he had a bad day. I may not be rich with earthly possessions, but I am rich with family and friends. I am rich in the things that matter most.

He keeps me each and every day. He protects me and my sons from all hurt harm and danger. Even when I feel that I am failing and maybe I could have done better with my life, He lets me know, daughter, it is well. And do you know what He requires in return?

All that He requires is that we remain faithful to Him and tell others of His grace and mercy. All that He requires is that we accept Christ Jesus as our personal Savior. All that He requires is that we hold on to His unchanging hand. All that He requires is for us to trust in Him.

That is such a small price to pay when we realize how much GOD has already given us. Ain't that Good News!

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father, we come before You with humble hearts and minds thanking You for all You have done for us. We thank You for the simple things. We that You for the things that we so often take for granted. Lord, forgive me when I complain. Help me to remember always, how much I am blessed. Lord, bless the homeless and keep them warm. Touch the minds of those who have gotten lost in a world we cannot understand. Bless that family that lives in fear and deliver them into an environment that is safe and full of Your love. Bless those whose circumstances seem hopeless. Restore hope, love, joy, peace, and prosperity to those who have been robbed by satan. Father, we ask that food would be provided to those who hunger. That warm clothes would be provided to those who have neither a roof nor a place to call home. Keep our children, our future safe from all hurt, harm, and danger. May we always walk humbly by Your side and give You all thanks, honor, praise, and glory. Lord, we love You. We adore You. We will sing songs of praise all the daylong. In Jesus' name. Amen

Failure in NOT an Option!

Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth. ~ Mark Twain

Scripture:
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Romans 16:17-18

Today I was full of apprehension. Nothing significant happened, other than the realization of a dream coming to fruition. You see, a few years ago I decided that I wanted to become an author. Since that time, I have slowly begun working towards that goal. This desire manifested itself when I began writing these devotionals and with it came the realization that I was touching the lives of others with God’s word. I moved from the devotionals to short stories and finally, my first full fledged manuscript. My manuscript was selected by Elissa Gabrielle of “Peace in the Storm Publishing.”

Elissa chose my book along with seven other very talented authors to launch this endeavor. These groups of authors are like none I’ve ever met before. Although the selections of books are as varied as the authors themselves, each is extremely talented and noteworthy in their own right. It causes me to ponder the question, Am I worthy?

Am I worthy enough to be counted among this national collective of talent? Am I worthy enough to think I can actually be an author who can sell books outside of my own circle of family and friends? But most of all, can I actually touch the lives of other by spreading God’s word? I was both humbled and frightened of the tasks that lay ahead.

What if I’m not good enough, talented enough or eloquent enough? What happens if I can’t talk to people about my book or worse yet, say the wrong thing? What happens if I turn people away from instead of leading people to Christ? What if?

So often we find ourselves on the verge of our breakthroughs and we will actually undermine our own efforts for fear of doing or saying the wrong things. We will talk ourselves out of our blessings out of fear and because we lack the faith to see these things through. As I write these words, I am reminded of just how often God has promised us His blessings if we just believe and have faith. His word tells us that we have not because we ask not. I am also reminded that He has not given us a spirit of fear and that all He asks of us is to have mustard seed faith.

In knowing the word of God, all I can say is; Failure is not an option.

Be blessed

Prayer:
Father God, I come before the throne of grace seeking Your favor, Your grace and Your wisdom. Lord, as I pause to reflect on what lies ahead, I am reminded that it doesn’t matter because You have already gone before me to prepare the way. Lord, there are those around me waiting to see me fail. But I know that even if I fall, I can always get back up. I know that my greatest failure is not being willing to at least try. I am fearless because You have already given me power over failure. I can move mountains and overcome anything that lies in my way because You have given me the victory in Christ Jesus. When the way seems dark and dismal, I will not fear because You are there to light my way. Thank You Father. Thank You Lord, because You are there to quiet the storms that assail me. You speak words of peace, love, and joy. Thank You. Father God, I come asking that You would touch my brothers and sisters in Christ. Where there is pain and suffering, I ask that You would replace that pain with the joy of healing. Where there is confusion, I ask that You would replace that confusion with the clarity of Your word. Where there is and war, I ask for peace. Lord, my prayer is not complete until I give thanks to You for not only what You have done in my life but also for what You are about to do. Bless the name of the Lord, thank You Jesus. In His name we pray, Amen.

Footnote:
This devotional was written two years ago and that novel, my first one, won an award. As I prepare for the release of my latest novel "Caught in the Middle", available June 15th, this statement still holds true. Failure, in NOT an option!

Be Blessed

Paying it Forward

You cannot hold on to anything good. You must be continually giving - and getting. You cannot hold on to your seed. You must sow it - and reap anew. You cannot hold on to riches. You must use them and get other riches in return. ~ Robert Collier

Scripture:
Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise? Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right. Psalm 106:2-3 (New International Version)

I like to listen to the radio on my way home from work each day. I am constantly clicking through the channels until I find something to listen to that I like. Although I am not a big fan of Michael Baisden, he does a segment that I have totally fallen in love with, paying it forward. For those of you who don’t know what paying it forward means, the definition is; the act of voluntarily helping another without the expectation of payback.

You see, Michael Baisden will tell you that he is not a Christian and that he has a problem with the whole concept of Christianity. Yet, he has taken this totally Christian principal and built a whole radio segment about it. I love it. But enough about him.

The concept of paying it forward is nothing new. As a matter of fact, it is a concept or principal that each and every one of us should be practicing on a daily basis. Personally, I don’t know when or why most of us got away from it. It is something that I show my sons through my actions every chance I get.

How many of you ever do something totally selfless for a stranger? Opportunities are always there. And I don’t want any excuses. We should take the opportunity to do something for someone OTHER than our families or friends whenever we can. It doesn’t have to be monetary. Although, in this economy even the littlest thing you can do to help someone else can help.

Pay for a stranger’s lunch or medicine. Buy a child a book, the gift of knowledge. Send a soldier a much needed care package. The opportunities to bless others through your actions abound.

Remember, the opportunity to show others the love of Christ through your actions are limitless.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, I declare and stand on Your word that says I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. I have been commissioned to do great things in the name of the Lord. I claim my gifts today and pledge to use them for the furthering of the kingdom. Lord, I am weak, but You are strong. I can move mountains in your name. Help me to build a mountain of compassion, of friendship and of caring for those who are in need. May I pause today to help someone else besides myself and build roads that lead home to You. Father, help me to discover my inner power so that I can be an angel that helps someone else through this journey called life. May I always remember to share a portion of what has been given to me, even if its just the gift of time. Thank You Father for my blessings. Thank You Lord for Your word that guides me each and every day. I love You Lord, and I submit this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Chasing the Wind

People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; Looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plaques them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within. ~ Unknown

Scripture:
I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men! I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 1:12-14 (New International Version)

The book of Ecclesiastes teaches that us a life not centered on God is purposeless and meaningless. Today’s lesson is about how some people can begin to put too much emphasis on “stuff.”

Sometimes we are so busy chasing after money, success and concern over what other people think about us, that we start looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places. The things that we begin to believe are the most important things in life, are the very things that we begin to chase after.

When we chase after fame, fortune and the opinions of others we are essentially saying that we have total control of our lives and that we don’t trust in the plans that God has for us. This is not to say that obtaining certain things in life is wrong or that we should feel guilty about it, but rather realizing that the collecting of things will not necessarily lead them to the road of happiness. Recognizing what is really important; God, family, and friends are more important than things.

Learning to embrace where you are in life, is sometimes more important than embracing the things that fill our lives. Recognizing where you are in your spiritual walk is often more important than the journey. Learning to enjoy who you are is more important than trying to impress others.

Saints of God, having things is not the most important thing in life. Having God and people who love you is far more important than any material thing that you could ever have. Having peace of mind, body and spirit is something that you will be able to keep with you always.

The most important lesson that any of us could ever learn, is to put God first in everything and He becomes our windbreaker.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God, we come before the throne of grace with praise and thanksgiving on our tongues and in our hearts. We come asking Lord, for peace that passes all understanding. We come asking for strength to stand in the face of adversity. But most of all, we come asking with humbled hearts and minds, that You would hear our prayers and our petitions. Master, we need You to speak to the winds of adversity that are blowing against us, peace be still. We come asking that You hold on to our hands and the storms of life toss us about. We come asking that You would hide us under the wings of Your salvation as the roaring lions draws near in an effort to devour us. Lord, we ask that You would keep all of our families, friends, co-workers and brothers and sisters in perfect peace this and everyday. Bless us right now in the name of Jesus. Our prayers are not complete until we let You know just how much we love You. Our prayers on not complete until we sing songs of praise to You alone. Lord, we lift Your name on high, we give You all of our love, all of our praise and sing songs of praise all the day long. Thank You Lord for one more day. Bless You Lord. Hallelujah, Praise God thank You Jesus, Amen.

Learning to Forgive

Remember, Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future. ~ Paul Boese

Scripture:
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:9-11

Saints, Is there anyone in your life that you say you hate? Are there people in your life who have wronged you and therefore you can't forgive them? Do you sometimes get angry at those people in your life you profess to love and say mean and hurtful things to them? Do you have a mean spirit?

Now some of you may not believe this, but there are times in my life when I can be mean spirited. And if you are honest with yourselves you too will admit that there has been a time or two in your life when you too have been mean and hurtful to someone you love. In a moment of anger you may have said or done something to someone you say you love.

When someone hurts us our first reaction is to hurt them back; just as much or even more than they hurt us. It doesn't matter who it is. Your significant other, your children, a friend, or even your parents. There is nothing worse than someone you love doing or saying something that they know is going to hurt not just your feelings, but it will hurt your heart and soul.

However, I have good news for you. As you grow in your faith and in your knowledge in Christ you will begin to develop a forgiving spirit, a loving spirit, a spirit that will bridle your tongue and your actions. The more that you grow in the word of God, the more you will become Christ like.

Keep in mind that if someone loves you, you can overlook their moments of anger. If a brother or sister hurts you, don't just turn the other cheek, but put yourself in their place and think about what might have caused their reaction.

Remember that person loves you, so do I, But God loves you best.

Be Blessed

Prayer:
Father God we start our day with a spirit of love. We will show love and compassion to those around us. Our prayer this day is that we may learn to be more patient with those around us and try to remember that words spoken in anger can be forgiven. Father, help us to develop a more forgiving spirit. A spirit that is not easily riled. Help us to recognize when our loved ones are being used against us by satan in an effort to cause us to stumble. Lord, touch our brothers and sisters who have a mean spirit, casting out that vile and wicked demon in the name of Jesus. Have mercy and show favor to Your saints right now. Touch, bless and anoint Your saints who are reading this message. Father, we don't know the needs of Your children, but we know that You do. As we humble ourselves before You this day, in reverence to You, in honor of You, and because of who You are, we will sings songs of praise to You all day long. When we think about Your blessings, we will stop and say, thank You Lord. In the name of Your son, we humbly submit this prayer and claim our victories. Amen.
