This Is My Season
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
Scripture:
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me. Song of Songs 2:11-13 New International Version (NIV)
April is by all accounts, the official start of the
spring season. We watch in amazement as the world around us begins the process
of renewing itself. The once snow
covered grass will slowly begin transitioning from a soggy mass of waterlogged
straw and mud into a rich and vibrant blanket of greenery.
Flowers and plants will slowly begin the
process of springing forth from the cold and barren ground, releasing leaves
and colorful petals as they do. Birds
and other wildlife will build nests and other places of habitation in which to
lay eggs and give birth to their next generation. Spring in all its magnificent
glory, symbolizes hope for a new tomorrow.
This year I along with many others have been anxiously
looking forward to this new season. You see, this past winter has been one of
harshest winters on record for all of us. Here in Michigan, the snow started in
November and never let up. We saw record
breaking snowfalls and temperatures that were below freezing for days and weeks
on end. Southern states experienced unprecedented snow and ice along with weather
conditions like none ever seen in this lifetime.
I don’t know about you, but for me many aspects my
spiritual and natural life seems to have mirrored the harshness of this cold
and barren season. The harshness of life caused my spirit to wither and turn
brown and soggy. The snow and ice permeated my heart and created a cold and
uncaring spirit towards people and
events in my life. The harsh and bitter winds of my economic condition and my
health left me feeling hopelessly lost in the wilderness. Then suddenly, the
radiant warmth of God broke through the dark wintery clouds of my life and told
me, spring was on the way.
His light shined down on me warming the world and
around and reigniting his light that resides deep down in my spirit. The grass
in my surrounding valley was transformed into a beautiful and rich green carpet
and the smell of fragrant spring flowers and the sound of birds singing reminded
me that even in my winter season, He was still there.
Yes, God reminded me that this is my season; a season
of new growth springing forth from what appears to be barren ground. This is my time of renewal of faith, of love
and life. This is my time to begin again.
Be Blessed
